The aim of the Peninsula Cancer Network is to ensure that all commissioners and providers of care, the voluntary sector and local authorities with the Network, work effectively together to deliver high quality care for the residents of Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
This being achieved by facilitating change and driving the implementation of the agenda set by first the NHS Cancer Plan (2000), the Cancer Reform Strategy (2007) and now the Improving Outcomes; a strategy for cancer (2011).
The mandate for this role comes from the 4 Primary Care Trusts as commissioners of cancer services who consolidate that responsibility through the Network Executive Board with their partner provider organisations.
The Strategic Health Authority remains responsible for performance managing the Cancer Network and its constituent organisations in its implementation of the Improving Outcomes Strategy.
