Pathology

The Peninsula Pathology Network group is hosted under the umbrella of the Peninsula Cancer Network. The group meets together on a monthly basis, and is formed to look at the whole of the pathology service.

The group aims are to provide opportunities for sharing information and best practice, and to ensure equality of service across the Peninsula. The Terms of reference are available in full for viewing.

The group is divided into sub groups for the purpose of looking at the many aspects of the service which need redesign or development. The group has been funded to form action learning sets which have examined a number of areas within the pathology service and have, as a result, made some significant changes to practice and process.

The sub groups report to the main pathology group at the monthly meetings, to ensure good communication and information exchange.

One of the sub groups of the Pathology Network groups is the Cancer leads group. This group meet twice yearly to ensure that all guidelines for cancer patients are agreed, and these guidelines are then sent to the relevant site specific Network Site Specific Group for agreement. The Cancer Pathology group also work towards achieving the standards required for Peer Review and discuss other cancer related pathology issues.
