Background
The Cancer Reform Strategy places considerable emphasis on prevention and early diagnosis of cancer. Effective involvement and engagement of public health and primary care across the Peninsula is fundamental to achieving improved prevention, awareness and early diagnosis of cancer.
The Network has established a new Public Health and Primary Care Group to sit alongside the site specific groups.
Group Chair & Membership
Dr Elizabeth Thomas
GP Torbay.
The Network Public Health and Primary Care Group has collective responsibility, delegated by the Executive Board, for the co-ordination and consistency across the Network for policies and services to prevent, raise awareness and promote the early diagnosis of cancer, and appropriate referral and follow up arrangements of people known to have cancer. The Group will ensure that policies and services meet national guidance, promote high quality care and reduce inequalities.
Public health and primary care representatives from each PCT along with representatives from the Royal College of GPs and Local Medical and Pharmaceutical Committees are members of the group.
Opportunities
This group provides an opportunity to seek the perspectives and commitment of public health and primary care representatives from across the Peninsula through a single forum.
The group is keen to interact with Network Site Specific Groups on the public health and primary care aspects of patient pathways for prevention, awareness and early diagnosis and referral of people with cancer and appropriate arrangements for continuing care and follow up.
