The Group meets three times a year at the Arundel Arms, Lifton and its purpose is to advise the Network Research Office of the best use of the NCRN, FSF and Comprehensive Network funds in delivering research across the Peninsula.
To increase trial participation as widely as possible with the aim of diagnosis, treatment and trial activity. To bring together the appropriate expertise from acute Trusts.
As a general principle anyone with a specific interest in cancer research is welcome to attend. Members of the general public and press will however not be granted access without the tacit agreement of the membership and the Network Director.
The key tasks of the group are:
¨ To provide an open forum for discussion of cancer research issues.
¨ To support research active individuals
¨ To enhance and promote clinical trials research across the Peninsula.
¨ To further the progress of the Peninsula Cancer Research Network
¨ To support the Peninsula Cancer Network in meeting the Cancer Research Network measures.
¨ To provide a forum for deciding strategies to improve accrual to trials and other well designed studies.
¨ To develop translational laboratory research in conjunction with the PMS.
¨ To provide a multi-professional education programme in clinical research.
¨ To contribute to academic development within the Peninsula.
¨ To explore opportunities within cancer research to further employment, staff development and working lives for the benefit of the whole Peninsula.
¨ To seek additional funding streams to support these endeavours.
¨ To provide advice on the Peninsula Cancer Research Networks allocation of resources.
¨ To prepare an Annual Report and any other such reports of the Group’s work as may be required.
