Service Delivery & Development

Service Development is an integrated aspect of the Peninsula Cancer Network.

The aim of the service development team is to ensure that timely care is delivered in appropriate settings against agreed pathways.

The Cancer Reform Strategy sets out ambitious targets to improve the care of patients with cancer.

The Service Development Team work in all areas to enable the sustained achievement of targets.

They also work to re-design processes and aspects of services in order to improve the patient journey and outcomes of care.

There is a service improvement facilitator in each acute trust, one who works within Primary and Palliative Care across the network, and one general service improvement facilitator who works across the network.

The SIFs also work as a Network team and take a lead in developing services and sharing good practice at the NSSGs.

The team are becoming more closely involved in working within PCT areas, as well as serving the needs of the acute trusts.

We involve patients and carers in developing pathways of care, as well as in the redesign of services.

The facilitators are a resource for both acute and Primary Care Trusts and form a part of the Cancer Management teams of each acute trust.

In this capacity, they work in accordance with the trust requirements.

We also work as a team across the whole Network.  In this way we are able to deliver changes which can improve services for patients in any area of the Peninsula.

We are linked nationally to the NHS improvement partnership and are funded via that mechanism to the Strategic Health Authority on an annual basis.
