Peninsula Cancer Research Network (PCRN) is part of a highly successful government initiative, the
National Cancer Research Network to improve the infrastructure in the NHS for cancer research.
Our aim is to implement and uphold the aims set out by the National Cancer Research Network (NCRN), which are:
To provide the NHS infrastructure to support randomised prospective trials of cancer and other well-designed studies in order to
· Improve patient care.
· Improve the coordination of research.
· Improve the speed of research.
· Maintain and enhance research quality.
· Improve the integration of research.
· Widen participation in research.
We are one of 33 cancer research networks which form part of the NCRN and were established in 2001 and are hosted by Torbay Care Trust.
Our Team
The Network is comprised of four Primary Care Trusts and five Acute Hospital Trusts, serving a population of 1.6 million people, across the counties of Devon and Cornwall.
We directly employ 28 staff and draw on the expertise of a large number of Clinical Research Professionals to support patients in NCRN Portfolio studies. The Network funds research nurses, clinical trial coordinators, data managers and administrators who are employed within the local trusts. Staff are based across the Network in the five Acute Trusts.
